as the nra and you cannot contribute? >> not at all, part of what we put in the letter to vice president biden who by the way did not blame the industry for violence i note in his remarks. as part of the letter to biden, we said that even if we are not part of the problem, we are willing to be part of the solution. we are interested in contributing to -- to reducing america's problem with violence. and some of the things that we suggest are games are powerful teaching tools and then the teaching potential of games has not been well explored at all. there are some people working in the video game field, some of our members who are working on games for conflict resolution, games for anti-bullying. there are people working on health games to help people who have to take -- who have mental problems to make sure they stay on their medication to gameify people staying, helping themselves to remain safe and to not be a danger. there are many, many things that the gaming industry wants to do to help with this problem. one issue though is that the government has been very slow to fund gaming tech

, those demographics mirror the nra itself. the nra's board is 87% male and 93% white. the nra's wayne lapierrre keeps insisting his group is bipartisan but take a look at this. the overwhelming majority of congress members with an "a" rating from the nra are republicans. on the other end of the spectrum, the fs are almost entirely democrats. a little sliver of red there you can barely even see it. and of course, the funding follows accordingly. 97% of nra funds went to republican in the last election. but it seems like the nra is not only not representative of the full american demographic. but data suggests that it is out of step with the rest of the country as well. on this issue of gun safety. new polls show that the majority of americans support the president's gun safety proposals. new polls out today, 85% support closing the gun show loophole. 80% prevent people with mental illness from getting guns. 55% support a ban on semi-automatic weapons. when you look, interestingly just women, it is more dramatic. it is the same all the way down the list. more women than men support a feder

on the all guns all the time ideology and put armed guards in every american school. the nra promises to marshall their formidable, political and financial resources to fight any new reforms every step of the way. they will do so with the support of allies in congress, most notably republicans on the house committee who continue to propose limits on assault weapons. no surprises there. by now, we are familiar with the political players and per am ters with the debate that feels as old as the second amendment itself or at least we think we are. because history tells us a different story. it tells us that all of our uniquely american relationships to guns, who is allowed to have them, who feels threatened by them and how our laws seek to find a balance between the two extremes have never been fixed. in fact, that history reflects a series of ever evolving, conflicting contradictory points that have been characterized not by policy, but panic. panic over perceptions of who is with us and who is against us. this time, it is a panic inspired by the fear a madman will walk into a public spa
